Smith-Barnes Elementary School Spelling Bee

 Smith-Barnes Elementary School Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee is a competitive event in which students spell words that range from common to increasingly complex as the rounds progress. The last participant remaining after others have been eliminated for misspelling a word is declared the winner. The term “bee” refers to an old expression describing a community gathering for a shared task or purpose. During the competition, participants are given a word, may request its definition or a sentence for clarification, then spell it aloud. Any spelling error results in elimination.

This year, Elias Tejeda and William Howell distinguished themselves among all participants, becoming our 2025 Spelling Bee champions. Through their dedication and strong study habits, Elias earned first place, and William secured second place, advancing both students to the county level competition on January 16, 2026.

The administrators and staff of Smith-Barnes Elementary School are proud of every student who participated in this year’s competition. We extend our warmest congratulations to our winners and wish them the very best in the county competition.
