Character Education

The character education program at Smith-Barnes Elementary School plays an important role in helping students develop strong character traits. Through this program, students are learning the importance of respect, responsibility, honesty, and kindness and how to use these traits in their everyday lives. This program helps to create a positive and safe environment for all students.

The Smith-Barnes Elementary School Character Education Program introduces students to basic positive character qualities that reinforce positive character development. Character Education is tied to the Georgia Department of Education guidelines for values and education and features examples unique to our school and community.

We will focus on a different character trait each month. Teachers are encouraged to recognize students who do an exemplary job expressing these traits. This is how our students of the month are chosen.  The monthly character traits are listed below.
